Sergeant Ebony Smith | Deborah Greene | Nada Mohamedzein
Sergeant Ebony Smith, Public Safety
Role: K9 Explosive Detection Unit Sergeant
Motivation: "My personal/professional motivation is being a positive role model and a leader for my nieces. I strive to be someone they look up to and know that dreams are achievable and success is attainable. I made it this far in my journey because I’ve had a strong foundation of women whom I admired and learned from. My passion is to show my young nieces that they can excel in any path in life."
"Women history month is a time to celebrate and reflect on the contributions and achievements women have made to American history that are often overlooked. I am reminded of the struggles that we women have had to endure and fight for to have equal rights. We have come a long way, but there is so much more progress to be made."
Deborah Greene - Electronic Shop Leader, DCA
Role: "I am the Electronic Shop Leader at Regan National Airport. As the leader, I support the Electronic shop technicians in making sure the airport electronic systems stay online. I oversee tasks associated with fire alarm system maintenance, flight information, public announcements and airfield lighting computer systems. I started with MWAA in 2001 as an electronic technician. When I first started, I was the go-to person for the fire alarm systems throughout the airport. I also completed internal supervisory training and earned a degree in Contracts Management through the tuition assistance program, commonly referred to as TAPS. I worked my way up to become Electronic Shop leader in September 2020."
Motivation: "The pandemic has affected global travel and as DCA employees we work hard to make sure our passengers feel safe when traveling with us. As frontline employees we are the first people traveler’s encounter when they arrive and it is important that we earn their trust by keeping the airport organized and easy to navigate, pointing out the nearest hand sanitation dispenser, and accompanying them to their designated entry or exit if needed, while of course keeping social distant. In the age of COVID-19 fewer people are traveling due to health concerns and I believe we can earn the traveling public’s trust through commitment and hard work so that Regan National Airport will be viewed as a safe place to travel from. "
"Women's History Month for me is a time for open celebration of the accomplishments of the known and unknown. There are many women that made great sacrifices and paved the way for success of those that came after them. I am overwhelmed when I think of the vision they had for our success which motivated them to carry, endure, and overcome the insurmountable odds. From time of slavery to the birth of my parents who have guided, encouraged, and impacted my life. I will continue to honor them all by doing the same for the those that come after me. For me there is no greater gift then knowledge- with it you can move mountains and I will freely pass on all the knowledge I have gained throughout life in hopes it can help others bring their dreams to fruition."
