Most customers who fly at Reagan National will be minimally impacted by Project Journey construction activities. Airlines and flights will continue operating throughout the project, with the usual services and amenities. - Segments of the Terminal B/C Ticketing (upper-level) roadway closed for work related to Project Journey.
- At least two travel lanes were maintained at all times.
- To help alleviate roadway congestion during construction, the Airport Cell Phone Lot closed effective October 8.
- Passengers arriving on flights at Reagan National Gates 10-45 should proceed upstairs to Ticketing (Level 3) and follow signs to newly shifted shuttle bus stops (as depicted below).
- There are no changes to the taxi, app-based rides and private vehicle pick-up areas – all located outside Baggage Claim (Level 1).
- Beginning Monday, September 10, the first of six sets of escalators and stairs connecting Terminal B/C Ticketing to National Hall (concourse level), permanently closed.
- Delta and United passengers using the ticket counters can reach the security screening checkpoint from other escalators, stairs or elevators.
- Sections of the Arrivals (lower-level) roadway used by private vehicles are closed overnight (Midnight to 9 a.m.) as needed for work related to Project Journey.
- Beginning Thursday, June 21, the construction area along sections of the Arrivals (lower-level) roadway expanded — closing an additional lane.
- Lane closures are in place 24/7. Traffic congestion is expected.
- Significant portions of the passenger pick-up median for private vehicles are blocked due to lane shifts.
- Passengers are advised to use Metrorail or park free up to 60 minutes (began March 21) in Terminal Garages to avoid the work zone.
- Beginning Wednesday, March 21, app-based ride services pick-up locations for Terminal B/C moved to the Arrivals (lower) level.
- The shift was done to achieve greater balance along the curb while major construction reduces roadway capacity
- Beginning Monday, March 19, access to Ticketing/Check-In through Door #5 closed. On Monday, March 26, access through Door #2 closed.
- Customers can enter and exit the Ticketing lobby using any of the four remaining doors.
- The closures will enable work to establish New Security Checkpoint utility connections.
- Beginning Monday, March 12, all parking, rental car, hotel and other off-airport shuttle pick-up and drop-off locations for Terminal B/C at Reagan National Airport moved to the Ticketing (upper) level.
- Follow signs inside the ticketing level and along the curb to reach the new pick-up locations for each service.
- Shuttle service at Terminal A will not be affected by this change.
February 27: Metro Walkway Airline Check-In Relocation
- American Airlines and Delta Air Lines ticket kiosks and bag drop counters moved about 100 feet from their previous locations near the Metro walkways into National Hall.
- Passengers can follow wayfinding signage to the new locations.
- Airline counters on the Ticketing (upper) level are not affected by these changes.
When Project Journey is completed in 2021, two new 50,000-square-foot security checkpoint buildings will replace three smaller checkpoints currently serving Terminal B/C – increasing the post-security space to include all of National Hall and its premier shops and restaurants for ticketed travelers. In addition, a new 14-gate concourse will replace Gate 35X – ending the need for travelers to ride buses to board regional jets parked outside. Concourse amenities will include jetbridges, holdrooms, concessions and an American Airlines Admirals Club lounge.
